NC General Assembly

Speaker Thom Tillis invited the teachers of the year from each district to come and speak to the House of Representatives.  I was very excited about this opportunity.  I was also very impressed with the teachers that attended.  We were able to share a wide range of topics that we felt passionate and were concerned about.  I hope we are able to have this opportunity and open communication again.

Catawba College

On February 21st I had the opportunity to travel to Catawba College to speak with freshmen leaders, education majors, teachers, and professors.  I had a wonderful time!  The morning started with breakfast with the freshman leaders.  I sat at a table with 4 leaders and the teacher of the year from Rowan Salisbury.  We had great conversation about the leaders dream jobs and about what it is like to be a teacher.

After an excellent breakfast we moved over to a teacher panel that consisted of the Rowan Salisbury Teacher of the Year Sakinah Shakoor and myself.  At first I was a little nervous to be on a panel with such a wonderful teacher!  However it turned out to be a lot of fun!  We really enjoyed answering the thoughtful questions that the freshmen asked.

After the teacher panel the rest of the education major students at Catawba College came in to join us.  At that time I was introduced by 2 wonderful students (video below) and gave me keynote speech (partial video below.)  I had a wonderful time at Catawba College and I would love to come back.  Good luck to all of the future teachers!
